The BI & Data Platform Administrator is responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving the organization’s Microsoft Fabric-based reporting warehouse. This role owns the end-to-end data platform lifecycle: data ingestion from Dynamics 365 F&O and connected systems, dimensional modeling, semantic model governance, and delivery of certified Power BI datasets to Finance, Operations, and Leadership. The role works closely with the Enterprise Application Specialist, Finance team, and business stakeholders to ensure the warehouse remains a reliable, governed, and scalable foundation for enterprise analytics and AI/Copilot readiness.
Job Description (Function and Responsibilities):
- Platform Operations & Health: Act as the primary escalation point and final owner for all data platform issues. Monitor and maintain the Microsoft Fabric environment including Lakehouse/Warehouse environments, OneLake storage, and data pipelines. Resolve ingestion failures, manage scheduled refresh cycles, and ensure certified datasets remain current and reliable.
- Dimensional Modeling & Semantic Model Maintenance: Maintain and extend dimensional models (fact and dimension tables) in the Gold layer of the Medallion Architecture. Author, publish, and version certified Power BI semantic models serving Finance, Operations, and Leadership. Apply and enforce row-level security, naming standards, and metric catalog definitions.
- Multi-Entity & M&A Integration: Manage OneLake Shortcuts to integrate the full J&T entity portfolio without data duplication. Support onboarding of acquired or new entities into the warehouse before ERP migration is complete. Extend existing pipelines to accommodate new modules, entities, or data sources.
- Governance & Documentation: Enforce data governance standards including role-based access, refresh schedule documentation, metric catalog maintenance, naming conventions, and change management. Maintain technical documentation for all warehouse components including pipeline lineage, model schemas, and data dictionaries.
- AI & Copilot Readiness: Ensure semantic models are structured for AI and Copilot compatibility including clean hierarchies, conformed dimensions, complete business glossary, and certified datasets. Support Copilot in Power BI deployments as the organization’s AI maturity evolves. Identify opportunities to automate variance narratives, executive summaries, and management reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Support: Serve as the organization’s go-to authority on the data environment, operating with significant autonomy. Work closely with Finance, Operations, and Leadership stakeholders across all J&T entities to gather reporting requirements. Provide guidance to end users on self-service reporting tools connected to the warehouse.
- Maintain and document all data connections from Dynamics 365 F&O via Synapse Link and other approved connectors. Escalate infrastructure or capacity issues to IT leadership or the implementation partner as appropriate.
- Participate in IT and Finance reviews, contribute to the broader Microsoft platform roadmap, and liaise with the implementation partner or managed services provider during steady-state support.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related role. Demonstrated experience building Power BI reports and data models. Working knowledge of SQL.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric; experience with Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse and pipelines for basic ingestion and reporting support; comfortable learning deeper administration/governance.
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Power BI: report authoring, DAX, semantic model design, and row-level security.
- Understanding of dimensional modeling principles (star schema, facts and dimensions).
- Familiarity with data ingestion and transformation concepts.
- SQL proficiency for querying structured data.
- Understanding of financial data structures: GL, AR, AP, Sales.
- Ability to translate business requirements into data models.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with Finance and non-technical stakeholders.
- Able to operate as the single accountable owner for a data environment, managing priorities, making decisions, and delivering quality outputs with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of a data platform, operating independently as the subject matter expert without relying on external direction.
